#IActMoreResponsibly is an initiative to combat the growing threat of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), a silent crisis that jeopardizes global health by making common infections harder to treat. This initiative raises awareness about the dangers of self-medication, overuse, and misuse of antibiotics—practices that accelerate the development of drug-resistant bacteria. #IActMoreResponsibly emphasizes the critical role of responsible use in preserving the effectiveness of life-saving antibiotics.
The initiative calls on individuals, healthcare professionals, and communities to join the movement, pledging to seek proper medical guidance and avoid over-the-counter antibiotic use without a prescription. Through #IActMoreResponsibly, people are empowered to make informed choices, creating a collective commitment to protect the future of healthcare and safeguard the efficacy of antibiotics for generations to come.
Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites develop resistance to the drugs designed to kill them, making infections much harder to treat. This resistance emerges due to overuse and misuse of antibiotics, such as self-medicating without prescriptions or not completing prescribed courses.1
The World Health Organization (WHO) and recent global studies highlight antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as one of the most significant threats to global health. Since 2019, AMR has continued to claim lives at an alarming rate, contributing to approximately 1.27 million deaths annually.2
India has a significant burden of drug-resistant pathogens, with projections suggesting that AMR could cause two million deaths by 2050. In response, the Government of India has implemented various initiatives to tackle AMR and enhance disease surveillance.3

I pledge to act responsibly in the fight against AMR (Antimicrobial Resistance) and to use antibiotics only as prescribed by healthcare medical professionals.
In support of the fight against AMR, I pledge to prescribe antibiotics only when necessary, ensure appropriate dosages and durations, and educate patients about responsible use of medications.
In support of the fight against AMR, I pledge to dispense antibiotics only with a valid prescription and educate customers on the risks of misuse.
In support of the fight against AMR, I pledge to take antibiotics only when prescribed by a healthcare professional, complete the full course as directed, and avoid self-medication or sharing antibiotics with others.

To combat AMR, it's crucial to complete the full course of antibiotics as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Stopping treatment early, even if you feel better, can leave resistant bacteria behind, which can lead to a resurgence of infection and contribute to further resistance.9
